A pump track is a purpose built, small, looped circuit with smooth hills and banked turns for bikes and scooters.

The track is designed so users can build momentum through the smooth hills and banked turns as they move around the circuit.

The final design has been developed to:

• Enhance the existing family and recreation offer within Calderglen Country Park.
• Cater particularly for children, including those who are new to riding bikes and scooters.
• Provide a variety of features and riding experiences suitable for different skill levels.
• Incorporate a looped track layout with interconnected features, allowing multiple routes and ways to use the facility.
• Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for riders of all abilities.

For safety reasons, the main children’s play area at Calderglen will unfortunately be closed for the duration of the works to enable construction access to the site. Work will start on the site on Monday 31 August and is expected to last 14 weeks.

The playpark will however reopen temporarily for the September weekend (Friday 25 to Monday 28 inclusive) and October week (Saturday 10 to Sunday 18 inclusive) for use during the school holidays.

Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resources, Kevin Carr, said: "This new pump track will be an excellent addition to Calderglen's existing facilities, giving families and visitors an accessible, safe and enjoyable place to get active, develop their cycling and scootering skills, and enjoy the outdoors.

“It will also support our wider ambitions to enhance Calderglen Country Park for the whole community.

“The project includes the construction of a new access path linking visitors to the pump track.

“The new pump track has been identified as an important project for the wider Calderglen Country Park Masterplan.”

A dedicated project webpage will provide updates throughout construction, alongside information on other planned improvements within Calderglen Country Park.

Project information signage will also be placed around the park, with QR codes linking directly to the webpage.
